Japan Association of
Chief Financial
Officers (JACFO)

Since its inception in October 2000, the Japan Association for Chief Financial Officers (JACFO) has become the professional association of choice for finance professionals interested in practical financial management. Not just for CFOs, JACFO’s programming and educational initiatives are for individual accountants and corporations who are serious about increasing their competitiveness in today’s changing management environment.

OJACFO focuses on investigation, research, and educational programs related to financial management. Ongoing activities include the following:

• METI-supported certification and accreditation programs for the development of CFOs (FASS testing and certification)
• Seminars and conferences promoting information exchange and research
• Financial management training and seminars
• Surveys and analyses of financial management trends, talent, and ideas
• Quarterly publication of CFO Forum magazine (Japanese language only)

CFO Certifications:

JACFO introduced the General CFO Certification program to Japan in 2000. In 2001, they adapted the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) qualification for Japan, resulting in the Global CFO Certification. Since then, the organization has added two advanced qualifications, Standard CFO Certification and Professional CFO Certification, to its repertoire. From 2000 – 2007, over 2500 financial professionals have achieved certification in one or more of these standards.

Finance & Accounting Service Skill (FASS) Standard Certification:

In 2004 the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) formulated the Finance & Accounting Service Skill (FASS) Standard. This innovative standard reinforces internal control, development and optimal allocation of human resources, and reorganization. Using flow charts to display finance and accounting service processes, FASS organizes functional skills in a comprehensive and practical manner.

METI entrusted JACFO to develop a skills certification for finance and accounting based on the FASS standard for the development of highly skilled professionals. This standard measures the accuracy of knowledge of practical finance and accounting work and applies to staff engaged in such work, including shared services.
