Tax Accountant duties and responsibilities
The role of a Tax Accountant covers a range of responsibilities, including:
- Interacting with other finance team members to gather tax-related information
- Preparing and reviewing corporate tax returns as well as tax returns for related entities
- Advising on corporate tax matters
- Resolving tax-related problems
- Making recommendations for improved tax management
- Reporting to the finance team on cashflow planning for tax remittances
- Responding to any external tax queries
Tax Accountant qualifications and requirements
It is highly desirable for a Tax Accountant to hold a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in:
- Accounting
- Business studies
Additional accounting qualifications to consider include JICPA (Japan Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and CPTA Japan (Certified Public Tax Accountant Japan).
A Tax Accountant should also have the following personal skills and experience
- Three or more years of tax compliance experience
- A good understanding of Japanese Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (JGAAP), US GAAP, or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Excellent knowledge of Japanese tax law
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Professionalism, integrity and trustworthiness
- Willingness to remain up to date on Japanese and international tax matters
- Excellent Japanese and English business language skills – both spoken and written
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with other members of the finance team
